Jan Margolis and Joel Moses, Ph.D. (now retired) founded Applied Research Corporation in 1989 to focus on developing state-of-the-art assessment and development processes that would assist clients in building their leadership bench by making the right hiring, promoting and development decisions to support business strategies. Both Jan and Joel brought significant corporate experience to the firm. Joel was instrumental in developing AT&T's 25-year management progress study that followed the careers of assessed managers over the years and found that assessment centers accurately predicted organizational achievement. Jan led Bristol Myers Squibbâ??s Global Executive Resource Group for many years and developed their assessment and talent management processes that are still in use today. She held a similar role at Deutsche Bank (formerly Bankers Trust Company). Her work is widely quoted in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and leading business journals.
Since its inception, Applied Research has maintained pace with innovations in assessment and development. The company continues to be differentiated by its commitment to delivering programs tailored to the specific needs of each client. Through its impressive history, Applied Research amassed significant expertise in behaviorial-based interviewing processes; customized 360° programs; interactive technology-based simulations to better mirror real-world business challenges; transition coaching and onboarding; and, most recently, a distinctive suite of assessment and development services targeted to determine sales management-readiness. Today, Applied Research Corporation's practice areas have expanded to a wide range of highly customized assessment processes (both individual assessment and assessment centers), with a focus in coaching newly appointed executives, executive coaching, talent management solutions, sales leader development and a variety of online assessments.
